This is the incredible moment a mother lion unleashes a blow from a pack of African wild dogs to protect her cubs.
While driving hunting at Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, Shalin Fernando (33) captured this exciting interaction between a lioness and her cub being questioned by a pack of wild dogs.
Shalin details the events: “We spent about half an hour with a beautiful lioness and her cubs, then continued to search for wild dogs. Then we returned to the same place after hearing that there were wild dogs chasing some antelopes. Upon arrival at the scene, the wild dogs lunged at the lioness and her cubs and began to threaten them.
“I am speechless and worried for the lioness and her cubs. According to our guide, all of her previous cubs did not survive. The dogs kept trying to attack but then they gave up and continued. The lioness and her cubs are safe.
“The next day we saw wild dogs again. One of the dogs was bitten and it limped. This is a one-of-a-kind experience for me.”
